Cambridge Urban Adventure Race

Active Cambridge and Stars Orienteering are hosting the Annual Cambridge Urban Adventure Race. Join the fun on 6th April 2014. Navigate your way around beautiful Preston and area in search of checkpoints and challenges that will test your teamwork and endurance.

Prizes will be awarded in several categories including best poker hand determined by the playing cards you collect as you meet the challenges at designated checkpoints.

This course is for everyone including experienced orienteers, people who love to run and those who just want to get out and have a fun experience in a great atmosphere.

Registration and info will be at The Preston Memorial Auditorium on Hamilton Street. Start will be at 10.00 am.

Race Format

Teams will have a two hour time limit to visit as many checkpoints as possible in any order. In addition to the urban checkpoints, there will be three optional navigation courses in three parks in Cambridge (about 1km course in each park). At the end of the race, teams will receive 1 playing card for every checkpoint reached and 2 playing cards for every navigation course completed. Teams will be ranked based on most checkpoints completed, and the best poker hand. Shortest distance to obtain 'one hand of cards' (i.e. 5 points ) is about 5km. To complete the full course ( all controls + 3 navigation courses ) will be aproximative 14km. Anything in between and your team will be ranked.

Training

Are you looking for a way to prepare for the Cambridge Urban Adventure Race? We are organizing two great opportunities to practice your map and running skills before the race. Come out and join our group of experienced orienteers and adventure racers. Here is what you'll learn at each of the training sessions:

Training #1: We'll run at Churchill Park in south Cambridge, and learn about map reading and route finding.

Training #2: We'll run at Soper Park, and practice route choice.

We'll have training options for both beginners and advanced runners. Everyone can benefit from training.
